It has been over 3 months since we learned about the coronavirus. We learned in February, one of the Princess Cruise ships was quarantined, in March, Trump declares a national emergency, in April, more than 1 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Every day there have been updates that show the coronavirus is still taking lives and impacting our economy.
A few weeks ago, a friend told me how he and his family were keeping a timeline on how the coronavirus got started and how it has impacted their lives. He found online, “My 2020 COVID-19 Time Capsule,” which is an opportunity to document what we are doing through these historic times. It’s fun and it works like this…You and your child can write about what’s happening at home, in your community, and other creative activities. When all of this is over, you’ll be able to look back on these memories.
We do not know how long this will last. Some say it could all be over this summer and some say we might see a second wave. Others say that we could see some form of social distancing well into 2022. All of this uncertainty can bring on stress and anxiety. The Time Capsule is like a journal to help get you through this difficult time. So, if you’re like me and think that because we are living in an unprecedented time and that we should keep some form of log to document the things we do and see each day, this could be for you.
Our memories are not as reliable as we like to think. So, write it down. Have some type of written account of what you and your family are experiencing through the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.
You can download a PDF copy of “My COVID-19 Time Capsule” here.
After you’ve completed your time capsule, you probably want to know what you should do with it. There are several options. You can seal it in an envelope and store it in a safe place or you can place it in a photo album and display it to your guests. I’m quite sure it’ll make a great conversation piece, but just don’t peek inside!
On a Final Note:
Taking a moment to reflect upon what we’ve heard from historical leaders can teach us a lot about getting through the many challenges we face today.
We’re all eager for the day when we can safely return to work. That day is coming. Timing is everything. Patience is essential.
Our courage, strength, and unparalleled resilience will get us there.
